(August 9, 1932 – January 7, 2019)
George A. Ward, born in Kirkville, Missouri in 1932, was adopted and much adored by his “only” parents, George O. & Lillian Ward. “Little Georgie” was a devoted son, early St. Louis Cardinals fan and proud graduate of Brentwood High School (1950) and Washington University in St. Louis (B.S. 1955). He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army (1955-1957) spending most of that time at Ft. Wadsworth just outside of New York City. George maintained lifelong friendships from these years and would delight those who knew him with tales of a well-lived youth.
George enjoyed traditional home and family life, was married for more than 20-years, and spent most of his career years as a successful sales executive at McDonnell Douglas Automation Company (McAuto) when computers filled entire rooms and computer-time was a valuable commodity. The job took George and family from St. Louis, to southern California and finally Colorado.
He lived out a long retirement in houses he loved cheering the Denver Broncos on in Littleton, Colorado and as a next-door neighbor to his son’s family in Tucson, Arizona. He indulged his passions for reading and bargain shopping while being caretaker and companion to a series of beloved dogs (Tippy, Zeke & Mickey) and for more than 30-years to a tortoise named Herman.
George died peacefully at home on Monday, January 7, 2019 at age 86. He was surrounded by family and his latest dog, Gus. He is survived and already much missed by his daughter Lori A. Ward, son Michael Alton Ward, and much-loved daughter-in-law Melissa and grandchildren Colin & Avery Ward.
