James Caroll Menne, aged 90, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, after a life well-lived. Born on March 22, 1933, James's journey began in a world much different from the one he left, but throughout the decades, his warmth, strength, and character remained a constant.
James served his country with honor in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in March of 1961. His dedication to duty was a testament to his character, a virtue that he carried into all aspects of his life, especially as a loving husband, father, and community member.
After his military service, James carved out a fulfilling career at AT&T, demonstrating the kind of work ethic and integrity that those who knew him came to admire and respect. Upon retiring, he embraced the beauty and warmth of Tucson, AZ, in 1985, where he would spend his golden years basking in the desert's serene beauty and the excitement of Cubs baseball.
James's passion for baseball went beyond mere spectating; he found joy and purpose in being a little league coach for his sons and the boys of the Marycrest little league team in Joliet, Ill. These moments on the field were not just about the game but about teaching life lessons, sportsmanship, and the value of teamwork.
He was a beloved figure at the Tanque Verde Lutheran Church for the final seven years of his life. Here, James found a deep peace with God and a strong sense of community and fellowship that enriched his life immeasurably. His faith and the support of his church family were sources of great comfort and joy.
James's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Mary Lou Menne, and his daughter, Mary Annis; and his sister, Karen Ferre. He was preceded in death by his three sons, Jimmy, John, and Mike, whose memories remain a cherished part of James' life. James's departure leaves a void in the lives of a plethora of family and friends. Though they mourn his passing, they also celebrate the end of his suffering and reflect on the joy and love he brought into their lives.
A service to commemorate James's life will be held at 10am on March 14th at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church. For those who cannot attend in person, the memorial can be viewed online by going to tvlc.org/livestream/ at the service time, ensuring that all who wish to pay their respects can do so, no matter where they are.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Tanque Verde Lutheran Church in James's memory, honoring his commitment to his faith and his community.
James Caroll Menne's story is one of love, service, and unwavering integrity. As we say goodbye, we also say thank you—for the lessons taught, the love given, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, James, your memory will forever be a blessing.
