It is with great sadness we share the sudden and unexpected loss of our precious mother and sister, Jane E. Kereny. Janie died Aug.13th at the beautiful age of 84. She was born Jan. 8, 1940 in Chicago, Ill to parents John and Alice Malone The family moved to Tucson in 1944, which later in life lead some of the siblings to believe that year 1944 qualified them to be NATIVE TUCSONIANS!
Janie attended St. Peter and Paul and All Saints Catholic Schools for her primary grades then Public Schools Tucson High and Pueblo High School where she received her (PHD) In those growing years, before graduation, young people worked, stayed busy or participated in sports. Janie and her sister loved summer sports and Janie excelled in all. Ask her which was her favorite and she would tell you “Softball”, then ask why? Her response would always be “Team name, Dizzy Dames”.
Upon graduation Jane worked in accounting at St. Mary’s Hospital for several years and loved it but left to start her real dream “job”, that of being a wife a mom and having a home with a white picket fence..
In 1962 Jane married Tommy Ross Kereny, just the beginning of their new life together. Within 4 years of marriage they were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Kevin, Timothy & Theresa. Talk about life changing, oh my goodness could write a couple of books on those interesting years. Blood, sweat, tears and CHEERS. In time her home was filled with nothing but joy and laughter and “oh my gosh” It was a hoot. Everybody loved going over to Aunt Janie’s.
Jane and Tom bought their home in the Palo Verde Park area when the children were little tikes and they continue to live there until today. This was a win win situation. Jane being a-stay-at- home mom, she became the neighborhood baby-sitter, after-school sitter or even the sick child caretaker for working moms. Jane was PTA mom, homeroom mom, Little League, etc all while the kids were at Kellond When the last of the 3 moved on from Kellond Jane decided to retire from being neighborhood babysitter, only to be talked into being an employee of TUSD and working at Kellond. Paid to help take care of her little ones? Oh my yes!
That was the beginning of a 25+ year commitment to the children of the Palo Verde Park Area. Jane retired from Palo Verde High School (20 yrs), married Tom, (50 yrs) 3 incredible children + neighborhood kids and a home but no picket fence. 2 out of 3 isn’t bad Jane more than reached her goal. But the one thing she could never figure out was the white picket fence, you see, her husband was a carpenter??
Jane is survived by her incredible children Timothy Kereny and Theresa Kereny and favorite sister Judi Montcalm, nieces Monique & Michelle Montcalm.
Pre-deceased by parents, brother James E Malone, son Kevin Kereny, Husband Tom Kereny
