Joanne “Nan” Richmond, a devout and pious Catholic, passed away peacefully in her sleep, after a fearless battle against cancer, on Thursday, September 12th 2024, in Camarillo, California. Born on January 29th, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nan’s 84 years of life were a testament of faith, loyalty, service, love, adventure, and joy.
Daughter of Kathleen and David Quist, and sister to Ray and Lorraine, Nan spent her early years in Minnesota on a farm, raising turkeys, playing the violin, and modeling. In the early 1960s, she moved to California, where she worked as an administrative assistant and began building her family legacy. It was there that she met and married Earl Richmond Sr. Together, they moved and settled in Arizona, where they shared many years of love and adventure. During their retirement, they traveled full-time, exploring the beauty and vastness of North America. Along the way, they honored the land and its native peoples, forming deep connections with various tribes. They were even invited to be honorary members of the Hopituh Shi-nu-mu (Hopi Tribe) in Tucson, Arizona, a recognition they cherished.
Over the last half-century, Nan embraced her most cherished roles as Mom, Wife, Grandma, and finally, her favorite title of all, “Great-Grandma Jo.” On the morning of September 12th, at 7:10 a.m., in a moment of profound and heavenly reunification, she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Earl Richmond, and her two dearly missed sons, Clifton and Ryan Rector.
Great-Grandma Jo is survived and greatly missed by her brother and sister-inlaw Raymond and Rita Quist, her sister Lorraine Tirrell, her Daughter Cynthia Dombrowski, Step-Son and Daughter-in-Law Earl Jr. and Kay Richmond, Step-Daughter and Son-in-Law Lauren and Glenn Kean, 7 Grandchildren and their spouses, and 8 Great-Grandchildren.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 1st at Funeraria Del Angel, 7 E University Blvd, Tucson Arizona at 10:00am, immediately followed by a graveside service at 12pm, Holy Hope Catholic Cemetery 3555 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Joanne’s name to American Lung Association 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago IL 60601 or at https://action.lung.org
