It was such an honor knowing Big John, he will never be forgotten here in his hometown of Abilene. I had the pleasure of competing against John during our younger baseball days. However, it was more satisfying being a teammate of his once we joined forces at Abilene High. John was a fierce competitor on the field and he made everyone around him better. He was one of our quiet leaders. He didn’t say much but with one look into his eyes you knew John was ready to play. Off of the field he was just a gentle giant. John treated everyone with great respect and didn’t complain of anything. Instead he was always looking at ways to help others. John was a great athlete, many will remember him for his athletic accomplishments, but he was a better person. Well done my friend, you left your mark here on earth and we will never forget you buddy. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his entire family and I pray they they find peace during this difficult time, God Bless you all.

when i first met “Monkey John” (John Michael Dallies) i was in was 7th grade. i was one of the three captains for a football game. Monkey John was one of the other three for the opposing team. 

the dude was huge and spoke with a voice deep as a grown man. his lampchop sideburns matched the age of his voice. “what was this grown man doing in 7th grade football game??” 

i had been a “skater” but was now going to a middle school with many “preps”. i struggled to fit in. maybe this is part of the reason he fascinated me with his huge hippy self. 

he was the quarter back. in that game, by the hair of my chinny chin hairless chin, i sacked him. i don’t think he liked this because a couple plays later he ran me over/steamrolled me. i picked myself up off the ground only to see him barreling down the field for what i think ended up being a touchdown.

a couple years we not only became friends but brothers. i have been pausing to relish in many memories that have been surfacing since his passing. 

man... so many memories of ridiculous fits of joyful laughter, meaningful talks, adventures and him being by my side in some of the darker times of my life.

John was himself and let me be myself. i cherish the peace, love, joy, individuality John carried as well as how he was always on the “edge of his seat” for some good laughter. man..we cracked each other up.

i love you, Brother Monkey John. so glad our paths crossed. thank you being such a good friend. i feel like i could have been a better one but i have to let that go.

Brother, your light showed so bright. From Sunday school to soccer, basketball and baseball you were the best player on the field! You made everyone better everywhere you went.  

In my confusion I posted the wrong date for when we were married. John and I were married April 13th, 2007. My apologies.....thank you. 

I am so thankful that I knew John Michael. He was a kind, lovable, and truly genuine person. He was my husband’s best friend and felt like part of our family. We will miss you, Big John. Love you, man. 

John Michael Dallies was my best friend. We where best men for each other. We where there for each other when it mattered. I will miss you Big John!  I love you my brother!

John Michael was a great friend of my younger brother Trevor. I know of the impact he had on my brother’s life. I only met John Michael a few times in my life, many years ago. But he had a certain spirit about him, a quiet energy I will never forget. You will be missed by many. Prayers to all family members and close friends.

I am so honored to have know John. He will forever be one of my favorite people. The kids and I loved him and thought so very much of him as well as his entire family. You are the most kind and loving family I have ever know and will always be special to me. You all are in my heart and in my prayers at this time.
I would like to share my favorite memories of John which are when he would come hang out at my house when the kids were little. How he and the kids would interact with one another.  They adored him. I would put them to bed. Brinna, who was 2 and usually quite shy with anyone else that came over, would yell, "Good night John, I love you" and he would yell it back with a huge smile on his face. 


I have nothing except fond memories of you.  My condolences to all of your close ones. 🙏🏼 May you rest in love and peace.

I was blessed to be a part of the Dallies family for many years. John and I were married in 2013. He was the kindest, coolest, and most gentle man I have ever known. He excelled in everything he did, especially when it came to sports. He left his mark in the town of Abilene, Texas and he was a true legend. He was true to his word, and true to who he was.  He loved his family greatly and would give a stranger the shirt off his back. Many people have come forward on social media to pay their respects and share their stories. He will never be forgotten. God Bless the Dallies, New, and Smith families with many prayers of love and healing coming their way.  Thank you.
