In the 1970s as the sales representative for Batesville Casket Company, it was my pleasure to know Mr. Leland Baker at Arizona Mortuaries. We met regularly in Leland's office at the mortuary on the corner of E. University Blvd. and N. Stone Ave. Leland Baker was wonderful to work with. He listened with care to what Batesville had to offer, without fail he made wise decisions in the long term best interest of the funeral home and the families they served. Plus his personality was positive, upbeat, thoughtful and kind. During the gasoline shortage in the 70's he loaned me gas for my car--siphoned it out of the funeral coach! He said, "Jim, we never have a problem getting gas for the coach, the gas stations all take good care of us in that way." As time went on I moved to Michigan and we lost track of each other. Today I happened to run across this obituary and have enjoyed thinking of the great memories I  have of Leland, Tucson, and Arizona Mortuaries. 

I just tried to call Leland to wish him a Happy Belated Birthday!!  Sad that he is gone. Truly a nice man. Always wrote to me on a yearly basis. Met him through a friend back in 1988. Now they are both gone. Prayers to the family.

Leland you are the gentleman and scholar. It was most interesting meeting with you at your sister Meg's house. I just left meg and she is very lonely, I hope her friends will follow up with her. She is a spry wonderful woman. Please visit her.

I remember Leland as a very kind man. It's sad to hear that dear people from my childhood are leaving us. But, that makes heaven look even more exciting because these dear people will be there waiting for us.  Anne Bach Shimeall, (Salem, OR)

Leland, you had a heart of gold, always considerate and sincerely caring for everyone around you. You will always hold a special place in my heart and I will miss our shared times and your kind soul. You are one in a million, and I was blessed to be one of your friends.

So sorry to hear of Leland's death.  I have known the Baker Family all my life and always admired Leland, a truly wonderful person.

I was fortunate enough to work with Leland right after graduating from Mortuary School. He was a great teacher and I learned a lot about Funeral Directing and the most important thing I learned from him was how to take care of families. I will remember these lessons forever. Condolences to the family.

My dear Uncle Leland! How we will miss you. We rejoice that you are with our loved ones in heaven but we will miss you here on earth. I'm so glad we were able to spend time with you recently. You will be forever loved.
