

Margaret was born on December 30, 1924 in Fulton, Illinois to Ralph & Martha Balk. She peacefully went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2012. She was one of ten children and is survived by her sister, Betty Faber of Fulton, Illinois; six children who gave her great enjoyment -- Gwen Miller, Tucson; Daniel DeWeerdt (Janice), Scottsdale, AZ; Valerie Crain (David) Tucson; Mary Lynn Bright (Thomas), San Diego; Michelle DeWeerdt, Tucson; Paul DeWeerdt (Elizabeth), Tucson; ten grand children, seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Arnold DeWeerdt, her husband of 57 years, preceded her in death in 2001. Her 2nd husband of eight years, Rev. John Vander Lugt passed away in 2010.
Margaret will be remembered for her great sense of humor, love of music, card and game playing and volunteer service with several Christian churches and ministries throughout her life. She played the organ and piano for several local churches including Bethel Christian Reformed, Tucson Reformed (Rosemont Community) and Cortaro Vista Community Churches.
Margaret was employed 15 years by Tucson Unified School District as the Substitute Coordinator and Office Administrator. Margaret’s generous work and loving heart have been shared by many and she will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Services will be at East Lawn Palms Mortuary on Thursday, March 8, 2012. The family will greet visitors during a Visitation and Viewing beginning at 1:00 pm. The Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 pm with Graveside Service at 3:00 pm.
