Marian belonged to the “left-handed” club and she always stated that’s because she is special. In her teens, she taught swimming at The Red Cross to the young and old. At a young age, Marian became an accomplished pianist and also taught piano. Throughout her years, she played in two Irving Berlin Musical performances. She also played the trombone at Roosevelt High School and self-taught
herself the classical guitar. Later in life she also learned to play the Ukulele along with Ron.
As a child, she said she was always doodling; and later she became an oil painting artist. Many of her artworks were exhibited in art shows and many family members have her paintings. One of her dreams was that the individual recipient would be touched by the painting in the same splendor that she was touched in creating it.
On August 7th, 1952, Marian eloped with Raleigh Drake. Sneaking out the window, down a ladder and crossed the state line to Virginia to be married. In 1963, they moved “out west” to Tucson, Arizona. They were members of The Tucson Four Wheelers Club. They enjoyed many camping adventures.
In 1971, she was introduced to the “love of her life”, Ronald Walters. They both worked at the Tucson International Airport and were set up by a co-worker. For their first date, Ron asked if she would like to go to the “Golden Arches”, which was Mc Donald’s. They were married on December 21, 1971 at the DeGrazia Chapel in The Sun. They celebrated 53 years of marriage and always holding each other’s’ hands. They joined the Tucson Sailing Club after purchasing a sailboat. For a few years they lived in San Diego and enjoyed sailing there. Marian was known to talk to the birds that came to visit; especially the red cardinals.
Marian wanted everyone to know that she loves you and to be kind to one another.
