Metella graced this earthly plain with her arrival on April 12, 1934, and went to join her Heavenly family on June 21, 2024. Awaiting her arrival were her parents Will & Bertha, her brother Adolphus, her sister Adinah, her son Alfred, her niece Betina, two grandsons and too many of her former coworkers and friends.
She was a devoted mother to her four children, Alfred, Lucia, Lorna, and Mark & grandmother to 4 beloved grandchildren She leaves behind a legacy of family, serving her community, love, and kindness.
Born in eastern Texas, she grew up in Tucson attending Dunbar and Tucson High.
Her nursing career began as a LPN at Pima County Hospital which was then located in South Tucson. Once she received her RN her good friend Jo Jones suggested that she apply at the VA. For the majority of her 25 years there, 3 North was her home base where she touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues with her compassion and dedication.
In her free time, Metella was a voracious reader, enjoyed making jewelry, watching PBS, and listening to an assortment of classical, jazz & pop music. Her vibrant spirit and caring nature will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
For those who were fortunate enough to know her, she will live on in many fond memories. May she rest in peace and forever remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to one of your local charities such as your local animal shelter, food bank, or your local women’s or men’s shelter.
