With this obituary, the Estate of Michael F Cajero regrets to officially announce the passing of a significant artist of our time. He lead a devoted life to his art and an unassuming life in which he portrayed the depths and emotions of life in his art. He was an active and productive artist in the Tucson community for 50 years. Schooled in Tucson and a graduate of the University of Arizona Bachelor of Fine Arts program, With Distinction, in 1969, he went on to achieve more success with completion of the Masters Program at Kent State University in 1975 where he began to hone his art process and ideas relevant to him and his perspective of life’s events. He returned to Tucson with commitment to his art and the process that let him speak from within his agile mind to his work.
Michael was the second son of Nicolas and Josephine Cajero. He was encouraged by them and his brothers and friends to pursue his love for the art world. He read actively in his formative years and explored the world of fantasy and science fiction through books, magazines and television. He was part of a new generation. As a baby boomer growing up after WW2, he explored new opportunities in producing art, teaching art and sharing his work in exhibitions. He has explored themes in his career using the medias of papier-Mache figures, oil paintings, drawings, and clay sculptures in dramatic fashion. His art has been displayed in Tucson at the Tucson Museum of Art, University of Arizona, Pima Community College, Eric-Firestone Gallery, Gakas-Nichols Gallery, and Dinnerware Arts Cooperative. On display in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Shemer Art Center. On display in Roswell, New Mexico at the Roswell Museum of Art. On display in Memphis, Tennessee at the Turner Clark Gallery. His art has been on display and in permanent collections that include but are not limited to the Tucson Museum of Art, Process Museum in Tucson, Phoenix Art Museum, and private collections.
He will be missed.
Michael Cajero requested that donations be made to local Tucson agencies that support special needs or unadoptable cats.
