Captain Hill’s nickname among the BLAKELY crew was “Keep Her Clean Dean.”  I never considered it disrespectful.  His philosophy was simple:  Take care of the little things and the big ones most likely will never happen.  Thus, keep the ship clean and well maintained…. That philosophy has stuck with me since I first met him in  January 1979.  RIP, Captain.

I seen Captain everyday on the Blakely his State room was passageway of CIC Rip Sir We Will Take The Watch From Here, thanks for the memories.

I served with Captain Hill aboard the USS BLAKELY  (FF-1072) as his Ship’s Secretary.  He was my first shipboard CO.  Learned a lot from him.  Never forgot how calm he was under pressure.  Fair winds and following seas, Captain.  We kept her clean for you.

I had the Honor of serving under Capt. Hill ,,as he was the  Commanding officer of the USS Blakely  FF1072,,,he was loved and respected by all. Rest in peace,,My Captain
