Raymond H Som, 76, passed away on August 3, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on July 4, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona, Ray lived a life marked by deep devotion to his family, a passion for sports and music, and an enduring sense of humor and wisdom that touched all who knew him.
Ray earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Arizona in Tucson. His analytical mind and steady presence served him well throughout his life, both professionally and personally. A proud Wildcat alumnus, Ray remained a loyal supporter of the Arizona Wildcats throughout his life.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Jane, a loving father to his daughter Amy and son Aaron, and a doting grandfather to Rory. Ray cherished every moment spent with his grandson—whether they were playing together or simply sharing stories. His role as a grandfather brought him great joy and fulfillment.
Ray’s love for sports extended beyond spectating; he was an athlete from his youth, running track, bowling, playing tennis and golf. Later, he enjoyed participating in fantasy football leagues and the Southern Arizonans for Nebraska club. He found camaraderie in these communities and relished the friendships he formed there.
Ray had an ear for country, doo-wop and Motown music and a palate for good food paired with good beer. He was known among friends as a generous companion—always ready with a joke or a thoughtful insight.
Ray was predeceased by his father Yow Choy, mother Ann, and brother Donald. His memory lives on through those who loved him deeply—his wife Jane; children Amy and Aaron; grandson Rory; sisters Frances and Debbie; brother Albert; and many others whose lives he enriched with his warmth, wit, and unwavering loyalty.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire laughter, love, and loyalty in their lives. A Funeral Service will be held on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at East Lawn Palms Mortuary 5801 E Grant Rd, Tucson, Arizona.
