Sisay was born on November 16, 1947 in Southeast Laos, in the province of Attapeu, to his parents Soun & Bime Vonginthy. As a young man he served alongside United States Armed Forces in Southeast Asia.
In the aftermath of the Vietnam war, Sisay arrived in the United States as a refugee in 1977, where he and his wife Chanthy settled in Tucson, Arizona. Sisay took lifelong pride as a Laotian American war veteran, working in manufacturing and embracing the new culture of his adoptive country, in particular hamburgers and something sweet to eat with his coffee. He eventually sponsored two additional branches of his wife’s family. He took quiet pride in the expansive Laotian family tree that took root in the U.S.
Sisay was a strong believer in hard work and responsibility, working the assembly line at the R.E. Darling company for over three decades. In his free time, he took great pleasure in spending easy days and evenings with his wife, children and grand kids.
He is survived by his wife Chanthy Vonginthy, his sons Henry Vonginthy and Jeff Pendleton, his daughter Barbara Pendleton, and grandchildren Aaliyah Pendleton, Andy Pendleton, and Madilyn Vonginthy.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel South Lawn, Tucson, AZ.
