It is with immense heartbreak we announce the passing of our darling Thalia (Panos) Stamos who fell asleep in the Lord on March 20, 2026 at the age of 69. Thalia was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of deep faith, enduring love, and quiet strength that will continue to guide all who knew her.
Born on September 6, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Alexander Spyros Panos & Garifalia (Pappas) Panos. As the eldest of three daughters in a close-knit Greek family, she was a beautiful baby, sweet girl, strong woman and beacon of light. Though born in Chicago, she made her lifelong home in Tucson, Arizona—a place she loved dearly and spent the rest of her days.
Proceeded in death by her husband John G Stamos and father, Alexander; Thalia was most definitely met with open arms by the two men whom she loved so much. She is survived by her son, George J Stamos, her mother Gaifalia “Carry” Panos, her sisters Terry Korte & Patsy (Mark) Valentine, her eight nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, dear cousins and countless extended family members and good friends whose lives she touched so deeply.
Thalia began her career as a sales associate in the men's department with Levy’s and, over nearly thirty years, rose to become a Vice President at Macy’s. At one point, even serving as store manager for both department stores simultaneously. With her bright smile, warm eyes, and the familiar click of her high heels, she brought light and comfort wherever she went. Deeply accomplished and widely recognized for her work, she will be most lovingly remembered for the kindness, respect, and family spirit she shared with everyone she encountered.
Thalia’s greatest legacy will always be the love she had for her family. She was deeply devoted to her husband John and son George.Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and cherished memories, including travels often to Greece, Mexico & Las Vegas which she adored. The dedication to her parents whom she cared for constantly was evident in all she did. Thalia shared an especially close bond with her two sisters and their children. “Nona” (as she was referred to by her family) delighted in bringing them together, often hosting holidays and gatherings for immediate family and friends alike. Her family was her world.
The void left by the loss of our beautiful Thalia will never be filled. In the midst of our despair we find comfort knowing she is now reunited with the absolute love of her life, her husband John. As a devout Greek Orthodox Christian, her steadfast faith in the Lord, which she nurtured with all her heart and soul, now serves as a source of strength and comfort for her family, who find peace in knowing she is resting in His presence. May her memory be eternal.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026. The Trisagion service will begin at 10:00 a.m., at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 3939 N Alvernon Way with funeral services immediately following. Burial will conclude at East Lawn Palms Mortuary & Cemetery, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, Arizona.
