On Saturday, January 25, 2020, Walter ‘Dennis’ Chico entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. He was the last surviving Chico brother and the oldest of his 6 siblings. Born December 14, 1948 to Augustine and Edith Chico. He grew up in the Mission Manor neighborhood and attended Sunnyside High School where he played on the varsity football team. He graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1966. After high school he attended Eastern Arizona College before he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He did a tour in Vietnam and when he returned to the states, he was stationed in Virginia. When he returned to Arizona, he was a man of many trades. Some of his trades included house painting, carpentry, car mechanics and retail sales. In 1988 Dennis began his sobriety journey and found his calling as a Substance and Alcohol Abuse Counselor. He worked as a Substance and Alcohol Abuse Counselor for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and Gila River Indian Community. He was sober for 32 years. Some of his favorite past times were drag racing, U of A football and basketball, attending Pow Wows and participating as a Gourd dancer. Dennis is preceded in death by his wife, Linda, father, Augustine, mother, Edith, brothers, Wayne, Austin, and Joseph, brother in law, Allen, nephew, Joseph and granddaughter Ellilah. He is survived by his son, Augustine Jed, sisters Theresa and Rebecca (Vincent), sister in law, Erin, nieces Melissa (Aaron), Lindsey (Edward), and Tara (Guillermo), nephews Michael (Janent) and Austin (Tammy), many cousins, grandchildren and his dog, Patches.
