Billie Reed Dickey, 87, of Olympia, passed peacefully with his children around him, on September 11, 2018 at St. Peter Hospital. Bill was born April 22, 1931 in Lakeview, Texas to Doug and Vera Dickey. After high school, he served as an airplane mechanic in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1953, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Naval Reserve from 1954 to 1955.
He was married to Alene Moore Dickey from 1953 to 1988. The family moved from Amarillo, TX to Montesano, WA in 1964 and settled in Tumwater in 1968. After 38 years working in the parts departments of Capital Chevrolet and Capital City Honda, Bill retired and in 1998 moved to the Timberlake area, north of Shelton. He enjoyed maintaining his home and property there until moving back to Olympia in 2010. He loved spending time with family, cheering on the Seattle Seahawks, and a really good piece of pecan pie.
He is survived by daughter Sandy Brannon (husband Steve) of Gig Harbor, son Dan (wife Colleen) of Seattle, daughter Pam of Olympia, and son Randy (wife Heather) of Snohomish, and by his brother James and nephew Lance of Beaumont, Texas. He had five grandsons, one granddaughter, one great grandson and one great granddaughter. A memorial service is planned for November. Friends and family will be notified. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Air Force Aid Society be made in Bill’s name.
The Dickey family is having back-to-back memorial services for our parents, Bill Dickey (passed September 11) and Alene Dickey (passed September 22).
They will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Friends and family are invited to join us for either or both services at Tumwater United Methodist Church (1401 Lake Park Drive SW, Tumwater, WA 98512). Bill's will begin at 2:00 p.m. Alene's will follow at 3:00 p.m.
