Dorothy Irene Fry Unroe Lewis was born to Finley T. Fry and Goldie Rice Fry on April 19, 1931 in Pataskala, Licking County, Ohio. She passed away peacefully on December 9, 2014 surrounded by her 5 children and other family members. She was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Dorothy is survived by 5 children; John & Juanita Unroe; Kathyrn & Lester Hepburn; Barbara Emmons; Ernest & Susan Unroe; Susan & Gary Baldwin
Dorothy loved spending quality time with her 12 grandchildren – Heidi Beadle, Jaime & Ken Wybenga, Larry & Harmony Martin, Michael & Mary Martin, Kristie & Cory Houston, Andrew Popple, Jeremy Bunting, Rebecca Bunting, Zachary Baldwin, Matt Baldwin, Rashel Unroe, Shonna Unroe, Brent Unroe
13 great grandchildren – Caitlin, Madison, Brady, Alexis, Ely, Aurora, Susan, Brooklyn, Haylie, Samantha, Cash, Payton and Evan. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters, Carol Graham and Sarah Kaiser in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister Glenna Whealdon, also in Ohio. Dorothy spent her childhood in southeast Ohio, and after several moves around the country for jobs, or with her husband (Johnnie Unroe) in the Army, she ended up in Washington State. She chose to make the Tumwater/Olympia area her home. She raised 5 children as a single parent, while getting her college degree at Centralia College. She later married and then divorced Richard Lewis (1973-1978). She also attended Olympia College, Pacific Lutheran University, University of Puget Sound, Western Washington University, Olympia Vocational Technical Institute, University of Washington, and The Evergreen State College. Dorothy worked at Head Start Program for 23 years and retired in 1993. She then worked part time for Even Start at the South Puget Sound Community College for 7 years, until 2000. Dorothy participated in several education and community related causes during her working years, including the Community Action Council of Thurston County. Dorothy was always known for her smile and her sense of humor. And as most everyone knows she was all about the books and education. Dorothy loved to read on many topics, and she loved her family gatherings. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ESD 113 Head Start ECEAP Program. A celebration of life will be held at Mills & Mills Olympic Memorial Gardens at 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater, WA 98512 on January 10th, 2015 at 1pm; reception following 2-5pm.
