

Edith Lorraine (Selle) Hansen Edith, 98, died on April 8, 2012. She was born February 9, 1914 to August and Mable (Boone) Selle on the family dairy farm in Colville, WA and at an early age moved with her family to Sandpoint, ID. She grew up there attending the local schools. After graduating from High School, she enrolled in postgraduate studies in business. She married Max Messman in the fall of 1934, but that marriage was later dissolved. She worked in the Recorder's Office for Bonner County and also at the North Idaho Clinic as a bookkeeper and in X-ray. She met and eventually married Palmer L. Hansen on July 29, 1949. Because of Palmer's work with Bonneville Power Administration the family moved often, making their homes in Montana, Idaho, Oregon or Washington. When Palmer resigned from the B.P.A., the family settled in Vancouver, WA until the spring of 1962 when they moved to Olympia. Edith, through her Holy Baptism, was made a member of the Body of Christ and was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where she was employed as a secretary from 1965 until 1979. She taught Sunday School for many years, was active in women's circles, altar guild, and participated in Piece Corps, where she helped sew and assemble hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She is survived by two sons, Lowell A. Messman (Mary) of Edmonds, WA, and Craig S. Hansen (Wendy) of Olympia, WA; two daughters, Sue E. Hoffman (Tom) of Vancouver, WA, and Linda A. Nelson (Karl) of North Canton, OH; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 great- great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer L. Hansen; a son, Alan G. Messman; daughter-in-law, Fran Messman; and a grandson, Michael Ehrstrom. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at noon on May 14, 2012. Memorial gifts can be made to the Scholarship Fund of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
