Directly after graduating HS, he joined the military. "Ger" was a highly regarded officer in the United States Coast Guard. He served our country for over 21 years in Washington, Alaska, New York, Minnesota, Oregon, and Louisianna. He retired as Chief Warrant 3.
After his military retirement, Ger enjoyed his years as a teacher where he taught welding at Puget Sound Community College. He created many fond memories for students and staff.
After teaching, he went on to work for Louis Kemp, located in Olympia. His final employer was CNC Containers NW Olympia.
After fully retiring, he pursued many hobbies which included fishing, camping, hunting, and traveling across the USA to see friends and family.
Ger's final days were spent on a road trip to a family reunion in Boise, Idaho. After 3 days there, he traveled on to Wyoming for sightseeing at Yellowstone National Park.. He enjoyed taking pictures of wild life and scenery along the way.
Ger is known for his kindness, love, and respect for others. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved chatting with his family, friends, and neighbors.
His favorite way to pass the time during the day at home was doing his fly tying, for which he had a strong talent for. Ger also enjoyed his workshop where he created woodcrafts.
While his whole family is deeply saddened by his passing, there is a rumor floating around that he told someone that this was all just an elaborate plan to get out of shoveling the driveway next winter. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! On a serious note, we would like to extend our most sincere thanks to friends and family who loved this wonderful man throughout his life.
Ger is survived by his beloved wife, Laureen, brother Edwin (Penny) Pierce. Ger loved his children and grandchildren to the fullest, which include his son, Shannon, his daughter Teddi Jo, his grandson, Kyle, and his grand daughter, Kiana.
