
Glenda E (Decker) Bednar passed away September 19, 2023 at Providence St. Peter Hospital at the age of 77. She was born in Seattle on August 17, 1946. She was adopted at the age of three weeks by the late Glen and Edna (Walker) Peasley Decker. Glen passed away in January of 1968 and Edna passed June of 1984. Glenda grew up in DuPont with her parents. Her parents worked at the DuPont explosive plant during and after World War II. She attended Laughbon School and graduated from DuPont High School in 1963.
Glenda was the loving wife of Raymond Robert (Bob) Bednar together since 1962. They were married July 21, 1964 and lived in Olympia, Lacey and DuPont on Mounts Road, then back to Lacey.
Glenda was dedicated, longtime employee of Fort Lewis. She started in 1962, at the Fort Lewis Golf Course. Then in 1968, she transferred to the Bowl-Roma Lanes on the Main Post. Her service was broken in 1964-1965, to deliver their son, Michael Glen Bednar. Glenda took time off again in 1968, to deliver and mother their daughter, Michelle Lee (Bednar) Schwilke. Glenda enjoyed working at Fort Lewis for 46 years and with her customers and friends from the old DuPont Village.
In the mid 80s, Glenda did volunteer work at St. Peter “Sunshine House," and as a great cook, her meals were enjoyed. She enjoyed playing with her plants and hanging baskets.
Survivors include husband, Raymond Robert (Bob) Bednar; brother, Joseph “Joe” Decker of Ethel, WA; half-brother, John Schomber of Lake Sommash; son, Michael Glen Bednar age 58 and his wife Annette from Albion/Pullman, WA and their children, grandson, Dane Michael Bednar age 21 and a granddaughter, Ryli-Ann Grace Bednar age 17; daughter, Michelle Lee (Bednar ) Schwilke her husband Michael Schwilke from Camas, WA and their child, grandson, Conor Ray Schwilke age 31 and his wife Lauren and their nine month old child, great-grandson, Hunter. Son Lydon Schwilke 27 and partner Savannah from Port Ludlow .
Glenda was an active volunteer with Providence Hospice Care program and will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the hospice, arthritis or diabetes program.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Martin Way VFW post #318 on November 12th 11-1
