

Glenn Eugene Van Zyl, age 72, of Olympia, WA passed away Monday, October 3, 2022. He was born on January 7, 1950. Beloved husband of Connie Turner Van Zyl and loved by his dog, Buster, and cat Maggie. Dear brother of surviving brother John (Dorothy) Van Zyl, the late James Van Zyl(Kathy) and surviving sister Gloria (Gene) Van Den Bosch. Kind uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Herman and Laverne Van Zyl and brother James Van Zyl.
Glenn was a member of the United States Marine Corp as a Sergeant and served in Vietnam and was stationed in Germany, South Korea and Hawaii. Glenn studied engineering and worked at Armil CFS Inc. from 1974 to 1996, starting as a fabricator and becoming a part owner and the Vice President of Engineering. He also was the owner of two companies, Thermal Control Systems, Inc. and Pacific Thermal Technology, Inc. Glenn was published in the Industrial Heating Magazine in 2003 with an article entitled SCADA control system at IIT Research Facility, Chicago IL.
Glenn was a member of the West Olympia Rotary Club and involved in a GED High School Drop-out re-engagement program and enjoyed mentoring troubled youth and encouraging them to become contributing members of society with improved skills and self-esteem. Some became very successful due to his influence.
Glenn loved living in Washington and greatly enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and backpacking off the grid around Mt Rainer, the Olympic Forest, & the Olympic shoreline, as well as in other western states. Glenn had an incredibly positive attitude. He found good in things, as opposed to the bad.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held in the near future in the Chicago area.
