Gregory Scott Lippincott was born to a large, loving family on August 13, 1964 in Enumclaw, Washington. As the youngest, Greg endured constant torture from his older siblings and countless foster siblings, but got away with nearly everything because he was mother’s little baby boy, “Doo Doo”. His parents Whitney V. Lippincott Jr. and Ruby Mae Lippincott raised a star athlete, bright student and sweet kid who was voted into homecoming court at Enumclaw High School.
When Greg’s siblings remember him, it’s usually a fond memory of running around the house like animals or being stuffed into the back of a Volkswagen van road tripping across the country. There are countless happy memories of their time together just being rowdy kids. Scores of foster kids were welcomed into the Lippincott home throughout Greg’s childhood and they all enjoyed having a baby brother to both tease and protect.
Greg played and competed throughout his life. Sports and competition were a world where Greg could be his naturally outgoing self, but also a space where he could triumph! Think of an athletic activity and Greg was probably out there playing it. He lettered in three sports in high school: football, tennis and swimming. In his adult life he continued to stay healthy and active through volleyball, soccer, golf, skiing, snowmobiling and competitive Wisconsin cherry pit spitting.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Washington State University in 1988, Greg went on to work for the Washington State Department of Transportation. He served 29 years at WSDOT building and supporting safe and reliable transportation for our community. Colleagues of Greg admired his positivity, strong work ethic and empathy, but often wondered how he got so much done while seemingly just chatting it up with colleagues for 40 hours a week. His family has heard since his passing that he excelled in the art of delegation.
Something we can all learn from the passing of our loving family member and friend is that our world is a wonderful place full of possibility, when we remember to open our eyes and hearts to the light. To those who are grieving, Greg might say death comes as a reminder to live more fully.
Greg is survived by siblings Whitney (Karla), Kathleen (Bruce), Chris (Mary) and Beverly. Greg will also be remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Gregory Scott Lippincott passed away on May 5th, 2018. His family invites friends and colleagues to join them in a gathering to remember good times and share positive stories on Friday, May 18th. Enjoy refreshments and memories from 3-5pm at Lacey Community Center at 6729 Pacific Avenue SE in Olympia, Washington.
