

Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 in Tumwater, WA. He was born July 29, 1916 to John and Mattie Arney in Owanka, South Dakota. Jay attended School in Olympia and married Louise Miller of Olympia in 1934. The young couple built a house on Fones road, next door to Jay’s parents. They soon welcomed a daughter, Joanne, and a son, Bill.
After service with the U.S. Navy in Guam during WWII, Jay returned to spend the next thirty years working for Coca-Cola. After retirement, Jay and Louse enjoyed their lot on the Duckabush river, digging razor clams at Westport, lake fishing, and road trips to Montana and Reno. Jay especially loved spending time with his family, his horses and his Brittany Spaniels.
Jay and Louise lived together on Fones Road until her death in 2003. He was also predeceased in death by seven siblings and his beloved grand-daughter, Jill (Nunez) Krasch. He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Nunez (Jack) of Olympia; son Bill Arney (Lesli) of Rochester; a sister, Ruth Treat (Bill) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Judy Nunez-Pinedo (Alex) of Olympia; Jay Arney (Ann) of Seattle; and Mike Arney (Allison) of Orlando, Fla; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Inurnment will be held at a graveside gathering at Mills and Mills Memorial Park on Littlerock Road, Tumwater, at 11:00 a.m. on March 20, 2014, with a celebration of life to follow at River’s Edge, 4611 Tumwater Valley Dr. SE, Tumwater, WA.
