I live in the house Mr. Markham lived in a year prior to his death. I woke up that Sunday morning of his death calling for my husband who was in the living room. I was in the bedroom and at the foot of my bed was an elderly man standing there, hands in his pockets, a wistful smile on his face. It was like he was looking through me as opposed to at me. My husband couldn't see him. He worked six days a week starting at 4am. That's why I know it was a Sunday somewhere between 8:30am and 10:30am - Sunday was the only day he would have been home during this time. A couple years ago, Mr. Markham's daughter stopped by. She told me the date of his death. When she left I looked at the calendar. It was a Sunday. I believe I saw this man while he started his journey into the afterlife. I believe he died a happy and loved man.

I have only just come to hear of Mr. Markham's name. I feel I missed meeting a wonderful man. I am sorry for your loss.

I just learned of John's passing.  He saved the health and lives of so many people (including mine) through his stop smoking group.  He was so warm, welcoming and had a such a great sense of humor and kindness for everyone. What a fine man.

I, like many others, will miss John Markham.  In his own quiet, confident, and non-judgmental way he helped countless residents of our community stop smoking - and stay stopped!  I owe him so much, and will never forget his kind words of encouragement as I fought my way through the process of becoming cigarette free.  Thank you, John.  I will never forget you!

Dear John, I will miss your annual phone calls inviting me to come and visit your group and celebrate my accomplishment that could not have happened without you!  Thank you for saving my life and many others. Love you!

To John Markham my friend my neighbor the man who helped me and 100s more to stop smoking I love you always. I flicker the light every morning to say good morning my friend John.
