Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on March 14th, 2017 at Tacoma General Hospital. Born on Sept. 1st, 1928 in Olympia, WA to Inez C. McLean and TI Pitts, Margaret lived in Olympia her entire life. She joined her older brother, Walter F. Pitts, and later younger sister, Joan, to complete the Pitts family. Both of her siblings predeceased her.
Margaret graduated from Olympia High School in 1946 and went to work for the State that same year. She also met the love of her life in 1946, Robert J. Hanson. Margaret and Bob married on June 24th, 1948, and made their home in Olympia. They had two children; John R. Hanson, who predeceased her, and Joan M. White née Hanson. As her children grew, Margaret started working as a Library Assistant at Jefferson Junior High School, where she met many people who would grow to become cherished, lifelong friends.
Margaret had four grandchildren: Trenton and Kelsey, from her son John, and Kristin and Shelby, from her daughter Joan. She also had three great-grandchildren: Paige and Tyler from Trenton, and Brendan from Kristin. Brendan and his great-grandma, who he lovingly referred to as "G", had an especially close relationship. To his G, Brendan could do no wrong, and their bond meant as much to him as it did to her.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Joan, son-in-law Ron, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her grand-puppy Bruno, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many more family and friends. Her faith, along with her family, sustained her through good times and bad. Margaret's family and friends meant everything to her, and we were all blessed to have her in our lives.
