Marjorie was born November 4, 1920 in Tacoma, Washington to John William Odey and Ellen Elizabeth (Nylander) Odey. She attended Tacoma schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. She studied at the University of Washington and worked at Tacoma Drug after graduation. She met George “Buster” Morris while they were in junior high. They married February 28, 1942, at Bethany Methodist Church in Tacoma. She and Buster lived in Pasco, Pullman, and Tenino before settling in Olympia in 1947. Together they built the family home on Olympia’s Westside and raised their family.
Marjorie always loved music. She sang in her high school choral groups, with Olympia’s Lyric Singers, and in the First United Methodist Church Choir. The family will always remember her singing as she went about her day. She also was an avid gardener and loved cultivating and sharing her plants with others. While in high school she competed in sports and remained a sports fan her entire life. Over the years, she supported her husband’s, children’s and grandchildren’s teams as well as our state’s college and professional teams.
Family and friends were very important to her. Marjorie always cherished her very special and enduring relationship with friends from her childhood. She liked to gather family and friends to visit and to share her wonderfully prepared meals. Marjorie’s love and support for her family will be her everlasting legacy.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, father, mother, and her brother John W. Odey, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlotte Wiseman, her children: Julie Reymore, Kathy Long (Robert), Marcia Naismith (Nate) and Tom Morris (Cindy), her eight grandchildren: Thom MacArthur (Tracy), Kimberly MacArthur, Rob Long (Alexandra), Ellen Clark (Ken), Kyle Naismith (Marcy), Katie Hoffman (Zeb), Marissa Jackson (Andrew) and Tyler Morris, her eight great-grandchildren and her four nephews.
