Monique Mo Hodges

She was born to David D. Swilley and Sharon (Sharie) Hartman Swilley on April 9, 1964, at Madigan General Hospital in Tacoma but lived most of her life in the Olympia/Tumwater area. She attended Garfield Elementary, Jefferson Middle School, and Capital High where she graduated in 1983.

After that she graduated from Adene’s Beauty School and received her cosmetology license. Over the years she worked her way up to shop manager, district manager, and corporate manager/supervisor and even worked part-time at a retirement center in Tacoma, styling the hair of Alzheimer’s clients until she was injured in an auto accident in February of this year.

In 2000 she applied for flight attendant training with Horizon Air and graduated on October 26, 2000, working there until her death. She was always a hard-working individual but enjoyed traveling and making many new friends.

She has been married for the last 20 years to Timothy Hodges. She had two previous marriages, first for a short time to Tom O’Hara and thereafter to Vince Sperling who remains a caring friend.

Monique has many devoted friends, from even as far back as her school days. She was dedicated to family and friends, taking it upon herself to nurture and guide her young nieces when their mother passed away when they were only five and seven years old. Everything she did was rooted in love. She was always generous with her time, creative, fun loving and liked to plan and have parties for all occasions, and cheered for Eli and the NY Giants.

Monique is survived by her husband Tim, mother Sharie and step-father Steve Hays, brother David L. Swilley, two nieces (Angel & Alysha Swilley), Godchild Paige Lease, three aunts, and many cousins who love her as a sister.

A memorial service with Pastor Bob Sievers will be held on Friday, August 19, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Mills & Mills Funeral Home 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater WA 98512. An onsite graveside burial service (with Dignity Heritage Burial Flowers) will follow at 2:00 PM and a reception of remembrance thereafter in the funeral home reception room.
