

Richard was born on 07/23/1935 to Ross Hess and Mabel Olafson-Hess in Carlton Oregon. After Richard graduated from Corvallis High School in 1954, he then joined the Army and proudly served for his Country in Korea.
After the army, he proceeded to join the Air Force. Achieving rank of Senior Master Sergeant, and later retiring in 1993 after 30 yrs of service. He took pride and joy in his career, making many lifelong friends along the way.
In 1958 , Richard met Joanne Goodwin and the pair later wed on 10/02/1960. Richard and Joanne went on to have three children, Rick, Linda and Brian.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, crabbing, camping with family and friends, golfing, taking long drives to sightsee, and many more activities. He was a dedicated veteran to the United States of America, an outstanding father, grandfather, great grandfather and a dear friend to many.
Richard was predeceased by his parent’s Ross Hess and Mabel Hess, siblings Howard Hess, Crystal Wiebel and Shirley Campbell, his dear daughter Linda Hess and his beloved wife Joanne. He is survived by his children Rick Hess and Brian Hess, Daughter in-law Dawn Hess, Lisa Hill, Son in-law Mike Toso, his grandchildren Michelle Toso, Jared Hess, Danielle Hess, Kolton Hess and his great grandson Jayden Hess.
Services to be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude, two organizations Richard felt strongly about.
Dad was known to say as a farewell “Keep your powder dry and see you on flip-flop”.
