Ruth Ellen Carr passed away on May 30, 2021 in Tumwater, WA. Ruth was 88 years old, born in Athabasca, Canada to Victor and Nellie Knaak. Victor and Nellie moved to Malone, Washington in 1948 with other family members to start a lumber mill. Ruth graduated from Elma High School and studied to become a radiology technician. She worked as a technician at St Peter's Hospital until she retired in 1986 as the Radiology Department Head. After retirement, Ruth volunteered for the Volunteer Income Tax Association for several years.
Ruth married the love of her life, James (Jim) Carr, in 1957. Ruth and Jim had two children, Michael and Christina. Jim passed away in 1989.
Ruth enjoyed golf, gardening, watercolor painting, calligraphy and spending time with family. Her real love was golf, where she could be found on the fairways as many as five days a week. She belonged to the Delphi Women's Club where she developed many friendships. She also was known in the Black Lake area as the "Mole Chick". Ruth was proficient in catching moles and at the last tally had caught 156 moles. Jim and Ruth hosted the July 4th picnic at "the White House" on Black Lake every year since 1960. After Jim passed, Ruth continued this tradition.
Ruth loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them to the Children's Museum, the Cider Mill, out for ice cream and numerous weekends where she let them destroy her house. She never missed a sporting event, play, or concert.
Ruth is survived by her brother Roy and sister Phyllis, as well as her children, step children, grandkids, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family invites you to celebrate her life Saturday, July 31 at 11 am at Eagles Landing Clubhouse in Tumwater on Trosper Rd. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delphi Country Club or to the charity of your choice.
