Stuart was my first “love” and I spent so many hours at your warm home in Corvallis helping you, Scott and Lindsay with school projects.  Your dad taught me to play hearts and prefer Pepsi to Coke! Your mom was always warm and your home had the most amazing energy. I did not know you became a doctor, teacher but not surprised. I became an RN specializing in pediatric and adult open heart surgery. I would love to have kept in touch and talked the sciences. Your family is beautiful  💜

I am deeply saddened to just discover Dr. Steve's passing. I have searched for him several times over the years. I was a student of his at SMU from 2002 - 2004. He encouraged me to get a job at a vet clinic when I thought I wanted to become a veterinarian - though he once told me I would make a terrific nurse, and could always take care of animals. He once let me bring my day old puppy I rescued from the clinic to class because he needed to be bottle fed. Dr. Steve was so kind and always looking out for his students. He knew I was dedicated and never missed a day. Once when I didn't show up, he called my dorm room to check on me during class. I was sound asleep from a late night. I could hear my classmates laughing in the background. He had been really worried. While he knew which of his students really gave a damn and would go on to use their biology degrees, he was respectful to all his students and made learning extremely fun! 

I never got the chance to thank him for challenging me and to let him know I did decide to become an RN - one of the best decisions I've ever made. I couldn't imagine a different career. To this day I still remember very specific patho, anatomy, and cell bio information he taught and laugh to myself... Oh Dr. Steve! You will greatly be missed. 

And to his family, I am so sorry you had to say goodbye to this great man. As students, we didn't know him like you did on such a personal level. But we all carry a piece of him in our hearts. I will never forget him.

I, like many others, owe much of my accomplishments to Steve's teaching, encouragement and friendship. He will be missed.

I was at a loss for words to hear about Dr. Steve. My husband and I graduated from St. Martin's in 2006 and we were very close with Steve. He helped my husband Carter get into medical school and I helped Steve shop for Christmas presents for Rach, although she was quite young at the time. 

We just returned to Washington in August for a visit and Carter had spent a lot of time trying to search for Dr. Steve so he could shake his hand, have a diet coke with him and say thank you, as he is now a Pediatric Neurologist. Our heartfelt condolences on your loss. He was a great man and the world will be a little dimmer with the loss of him.

I want to thank all of you for your kindness. Stephen's calling was to pass his knowledge on to his students....it was a beautiful part of his soul. He was also a wonderful husband and the best friend I have ever had. My soul misses him with great sorrow, yet the memories of our love and friendship live forever. I look forward to the day when I can look into his beautiful blue eyes and say thank you for being there for me. I really needed you in my life. Love always, your wife and friend, Tracy.

It was a pleasure knowing Steve, and a privilege to have had him as professor at Saint Martin's University. The place will not be the same without him as many students, including myself, were greatly influenced by him. He will truly be missed.

I am so extremely grieved by the knowledge of the passing of Steve Fulton.  Steve has changed my life forever. He is the most brilliant man that I will ever have the honor to love and know here on this earth.  Steve and I knew each other for many years, both as dear friends and as student to professor.  Steve achieved at graduation the highest honors one can at Stanford University.  His extraordinary compassion for his students made him an Ikon both at Saint Martin University and South Puget Sound Community College.  His extremely humble spirit made him ask for students to refer to him as "Steve", rather then Dr. Fulton.  On many occasions he would photograph graduating seniors and reward then with a personal photo taken and edited my himself.  He once told me, that his students were the most important thing in his life, right or wrong.  There will never be another like Steve.  His shoes just can not be filled...ever.  Thank you Steve for the excellent teaching and the many years that I was blessed to know you.

I always loved running into Steve in the halls of SMU.  He was so positive and enjoyable to talk to. He always teased me about "not liking ice cream"!! The students loved him and he was so good for them. I will miss him tremendously.

Steve was a great friend and mentor. Without his constant encouragement I would have found going to medical school almost impossible. He will be very missed not only by me but my children also. They learned quickly that if they want a neat new toy, one just needed to see Steve. His wallet was never empty when it came to my children. I attended medical school in Southern California and required surgery. When surgery was over there was Steve at my bedside. No better friend or mentor could one wish for.. Saddens me to hear about Steve passing. I had the pleasure to meet him and only knew him for about two months. He is my first memory of st. Martins and made me feel instantly welcome. Such a great man full of enthusiasm that has left us too soon. Rest Easy Steve, I'm thankful to have met you!!

Steve was the type of professor that made you want to go to class, to try harder, and always strive for better. He was the type of person that helped you achieve better. He was an amazing teacher, mentor, and friend to many of us that we're fortunate enough to have him in our lives. He will be forever missed and forever remembered.

Steve was a mentor and an inspiration to many of us at SMU. The courses he taught were demanding and rewarding. His advice was always deeply considered and honest. Steve was always the first one in line to encourage you and tell you to keep working hard at your dreams. He made me want to learn and did it in a way that no other professor could. Although I didn't know Steve well, it was clear he loved his work and cared deeply for his students and their success. I remember at one faculty meeting his happiness when he praised and told about the successes of past SMU students. He will definitely be missed by all in our Saint Martin's community.

Thankful I had the opportunity to take a class from him.. Though I did struggle a bit his class was unforgettable...

With sadness I extend my love to Steve's family. He was a vibrant soul with a TRUE love for the sciences. I never really had an interest in Biology until I took a course from Dr. Fulton. By the enthusiastic and passionate way he taught, he got through to me and I finally found the sciences exciting after 18 years of schooling. He did this with a true love and desire for his work, and for that I am forever grateful. To a great friend and even better professor you will be missed! Rest in Peace.

Dr. Stephen Fulton was an inspiration to all of us in the Saint Martin's community who were lucky enough to have his as our professor. He taught each class with a passion unlike any professor I have ever had. He had the knowledge and ability to take an extremely hard subject and make it easier to learn and also fun. He will missed by all of us whose lives he touched.

Steve was a brilliant professor, a great mentor and even better friend. His belief in his students was truly inspiring. I will miss him and his engaging, often hilarious lectures. I feel privileged to have learned from someone so passionate about science and medicine. The last time we spoke he told me, If you're ever in a jam, here I am. He always was, and for that I am thankful. You will be dearly missed, Steve.

How fruitful your work has been! The seeds you have planted have taken root, and will continue to grow. It was an honor to have known you Steve.

I am thankful that I had an opportunity to meet Steve and have him for a short time as an A&P professor. He was the first professor who brought to my attention that pharmacy school might be a good choice for me after I received my bachelor degree. Thank you, Steve, for your support in continuing my education. I wish I had a chance to tell you in person, but I am at one of the best pharmacy schools in the nation now because of you taking the time with me to discuss pharmacy school requirements and options a few years ago. Rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers are going out to you, your beloved family, and friends.

Dr. Fulton was not only an amazing professor, but an amazing human being. Whether I had a class with him during the semester or not, we would always go out of his way to say hello. He was so enthusiastic about teaching and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Steve was the most loving, caring, and inspirational person I have ever had the opportunity to learn from. He always went above and beyond the call of duty to be there for those of us lucky enough to know him. He is the smartest man I have ever known, he was a mentor, a friend, an amazing professor, and an absolutely incredible man. Truly one of a kind. Keep smiling and keep laughing on, Steve. We all love you more than you'll ever know and your legacy will forever live on.

Steve never missed an opportunity to ask me how our Extended Learning nontraditional students were doing.  He was always inquiring how we could better serve our military students in particular, and his enthusiasm for helping them was clearly evident.  Thank you Steve for always asking!  You were one of a kind.

Dr.  Fulton was a mentor and personal hero to myself and many SMU students.  He was an advocate for medical science and due to his hard work we were able to experience advanced anatomy learning with a cadaver lab--a truly invaluable program for pre-med students.  I was accepted to my top choices of PA schools with his recommendation.  Steve, you are incredibly loved and missed.  I hope that you were greeted with a lit cigarette and an entire fridge stocked with ice cold diet coca-cola.

Steve cared deeply about the students and the community of Saint Martin's and he was passsionate about teaching. I enjoyed the years I spent with him as a colleague and will remember some wonderful stories.  He will be missed.  Bob Grisham
