He was preceded in death by his parents, John LaFoy and Grace LaFoy; mother and father-in-law, James W. and Enola Wright; and brothers-in-law, Douglas Wright, Charles Wright and Robert Foreman.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Gloria Wright LaFoy of Tuscaloosa; son, Barry Michael LaFoy of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Vickie LaFoy Guin of Nashville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Stephanie Lauren Marquis of Northport; three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Riley and Natalie; brother, W.J. LaFoy and sisters-in-law, Doris Kay LaFoy and Virginia Kay Nichols; and numerous nieces and nephews.
With great dignity he fought his battle with cancer. He was admired by many for his honesty, dependability, wisdom, and his compassion for others. He was called "the widow's helper" because he was always available when they needed help. All those who knew him well referred to him as the “project man” because of his masterful ability to build, fix and repair any and everything. He was a perfectionist at everything he did. Many will miss his masterful ability and wise counsel.
His children always depended on his wisdom and looked at their father with the highest esteem. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the people who ministered to our husband, father, grandfather and brother in his final days before he left us to joyfully be reunited with loved ones in heaven and to see Jesus, the lover of his soul. We also thank Dr. Jimmy Robinson, Dr. Fred Graham, Dr. Rodney Marshall, Dr. Keith DeBell, and Dr. Donnie Smith who took such good care of his health needs.
