Betty Sue Long Thomas

Betty Sue Long Thomas, age 78, of Tuscaloosa, peacefully passed away at home on October 5, 2015. Services for Mrs. Thomas will be 3 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.Betty Sue Long was the daughter of Mary Falls and Sellie Edward Long. She was born in Samantha, Alabama. She was a 1955 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High. She worked for the Tuscaloosa News and retired from the University of Alabama Family Practice Residency Program. She was a member of Five Points Baptist Church in Northport for over 50 years.She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Harold Long; and sister-in-law, Doris Long. Survivors are her husband of 38 years, Allen Boyd Thomas, who lovingly cared for her at home throughout her illness; her daughters, Deidre ""Dee"" Burroughs Moore (Rick) of Clemson, South Carolina and Susan Burroughs Wheeler (Richard) of Asheville, North Carolina; stepchildren, Scott Thomas (Lisa), Brian Thomas and Alane Thomas Bailey (Rick); grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Amy Smith (Seth), Gregorie Kamren Kowa of Charleston, South Carolina, Karoline Kowa of Asheville, North Carolina, Alexis Bailey of Northport, Duncan, Reese and Jarred Thomas of Buhl, Brandi Sams and Cody Thomas of Tuscaloosa; and cousin, Jane Newton of Tuscaloosa.Allen and the rest of our family wish to thank Jamie Robertson, Candice Muniz, Jill Duke, Lee Harbin, Damon Rose and The Amedisys Hospice Care staff of Tuscaloosa. The family would like to give a special thanks to the kind, caring sitters of Homestead. All of these special people helped Sue and Allen and we will always remember them for their loving care of our parents.
