Billie Jean Wilson, born in 1927 in Fayette, Alabama, met Jesus and entered her eternal home in 2025. She was the daughter of John and Belle Taylor, and one of 13 children. As the last of her siblings to leave this earth, Billie Jean carried with her the legacy of a remarkable family and a lifetime of faith.
Billie Jean met the love of her life, James Lonnie Wilson, while he was working at the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa after serving in World War II. Together, they built a beautiful life anchored in love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to family. They raised three children—Patricia Ann Welch, James Earl Wilson, and Curtis Ray Wilson—each of whom was shaped by the grace, steadiness, and faith they witnessed in their mother.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lonnie, and her son, James Earl. Though her earthly family circle has known loss, Billie Jean’s presence was always the glue that held everyone together. She had a quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and a calming love that touched every part of their lives.
Billie Jean was a God-loving woman who lived her faith openly and taught it by example. She was known for reminding her family that “Jesus will take care of you—give Him your worries and He will carry the load.” Her life embodied that message. Through every hardship and every blessing, she showed what true faith looked like.
To the day she passed, she remained peaceful and soft-spoken. Her children remember only a couple of times she ever raised her voice—and they agree she had good reason when she did. She brought calm where there was worry, compassion where there was hurt, and love wherever she went.
Billie Jean and Lonnie were longtime members of Hopewell Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, where they planted deep spiritual roots. They taught their children that church is God’s home and that He wants His people gathered there on Sunday. The strong faith their children and grandchildren carry today began with the foundation she set—believing in Jesus, trusting Him, and giving your life to Him fully.
She leaves behind a family who loves her deeply and carries her lessons, her gentleness, and her faith forward. Her legacy is one of peace, strength, and unwavering trust in the Lord.
