

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Marklin; brother, Dudley Marklin (Elsie); children, William H. McGuire (Susan), David M. McGuire (Jennifer), Julie McGuire Elmore (Terrell), Michael J. McGuire (Stefanie); grandchildren, Jake White (Sarah), Ashley White Berry (Brandon,) Kristin McGuire Singleton (Jamie), Mallory McGuire Miller (John Cox), Wood McGuire, Taylor Robertson (Ashley), Marlee McGuire and Morgan McGuire, and great-grandchildren Nora Reese Singleton, Millie Robertson and John Miller, niece Debbie Marklin Harrison (Kevin) and nephew Cliff Marklin (April), Kathy Marklin Smith (Jim), Kenny Marklin, and Vicki Marklin Shaw (James) and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Born in Clarksville, Tennessee, following high school, he joined the US Marine Corp where he received an honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal. Eventually ending up in Tuscaloosa, he retired after a 33 year career with South Central Bell (now AT&T).
Affectionately known as Papa, he was a loving husband, father to four stepchildren, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a kind, generous, man who always had a great story to tell, loved life, and could always make you laugh. He will be greatly missed by everyone who loved him and those who came to know him throughout his life.
A graveside service will be held at Memory Hill Gardens on March 28, at 11:00am. Visitation with the family will follow the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Parkinson’s Foundation. The family wishes to thank the staff of North River Primary, especially Dr. Clint McEntyre and Nikki Cameron, current and former staff at The Landings of Northport for their care and assistance and a special thank you to Ron Cameron with Amedysis Home Health for his years of dedication and care.
