Her nephews, William (Bill) Azar, Joe Azar, Zack Azar, Chuck Gladden, Scott Davis, Stephen Jones, Kyle Raybon, Jeff Gladden, Tom Adair Jr., and Justin Adair, will serve as pallbearers.
Charlotte attended St. John's Catholic School, graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, and attended the University of Alabama School of Nursing for two years. After working for several medical offices in Tuscaloosa, Charlotte settled in for a long tenure at University Orthopedic Clinic where she retired. In addition to UOC Charlotte also worked a second job at Gayfers department store in the China and Silver department. Charlotte grew up attending St. Francis and later in life attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church regularly.
Charlotte had two children, Gerald Marlowe and Susan Shirley. Charlotte was very proud and truly loved all of her grandchildren, Elyse Danielle St. John Shirley (1985-2002); Kellen Shirley, who attends Troy University; Blake Shirley, who attends Robertsdale High School, Project REACH; James Marlowe, Jordan Marlowe, and Emma Machree Marlowe, who attend Christ the King Catholic School; and Mary Eden Marlowe, who attends Country Day School.
Charlotte's children currently live in Baldwin County. Gerald married Karen (Falck) Marlowe and they live in Fairhope, Alabama. Susan married Allen Shirley and they live in Robertsdale, Alabama.
After retirement Charlotte moved to Fairhope, Alabama to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church regularly. Charlotte enjoyed the Mobile Bay sunsets. They reminded her of her childhood days spent with family in Coden, Alabama.
Mamma T and Daddy Broad (her parents) were proud of their daughter. They held Charlotte close and gave her all their love. Charlotte fought illness, just as Charlotte had worked very hard all her life. Charlotte's body faded with cancer, but her will to live consistently showed the same spirit she had shown through the years. On August 13, 2012, Charlotte moved on to eternal life. The physical and mental pain is over. Charlotte was not alone. Just as Charlotte came in this world, her children and grandchildren held her very, very close and gave her all their love. Charlotte was surrounded by family who loved her. Her friends who loved her were with us in thoughts and prayers.
Her children would like to thank University Orthopedic Clinic, coworkers past and present, and the physicians. Thank you to all the friends of Christ the King Catholic School and St. Lawrence Church for their continued support during this time. We would especially like to thank all of the family who have continually supported Charlotte.
Charlotte has given her children and grandchildren wonderful memories, and she will be missed.
If you would like to make a contribution in Charlotte's name, please do so to Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa or the Autism Society of Alabama.
