Dawson lived his entire life in Tuscaloosa County and was very passionate about his community. He served in his church, Liberty Baptist, as a deacon, then chairman of deacons, a Sunday school teacher, choir director, and leader over many other ministries.
He met his wife, Katie Lou, in the first grade and they were married just short of 65 years.
Dawson graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School and went on to work as a machinist until he retired.
He loved to work outside whether it was on a piece of equipment or in his garden. He believed in fixing anything he could before paying someone to fix it for him. Dawson was always willing to help anyone in need if he was able regardless of the situation. He loved Southern Gospel and singing along to Christian Harmony songs. He loved spending time with his family as much as possible.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Lou; his daughter, Cindy Hall (Thomas); his son, Kevin Dockery; his sister, Minerva Tatum; his grandchildren, Clint Hall (Molly), and Brooke Sarjahani (Alexander); great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Elliot Sarjahani; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dawson was preceded in death by his parents, Gillie and Flana Dockery; his brothers, Willie B. Dockery, George Dockery, Carl Dockery, Harvey Dockery, Gillie Dockery, Donald Dockery; and sisters, Louise Geer, Lula Dockery, and Wilma Fondren. He is also preceded by his twin infant daughters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Liberty Baptist Church with Bro. Greg Walker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery.
