She was born in Jena, Alabama, to J.E. and Willie Bell Styes, who preceded her in death. She was married to William T. Smith on April 17, 1948, until he passed away on January 3, 2020.+
She grew up in rural Tuscaloosa County, and she would tell you the center of their community was the church. She spent most of her adult life serving the Lord at Hargrove United Methodist Church but joined Valley View Baptist in July 2010 so she and Bill could worship with their girls and their families. Her legacy is her family, her service and love to her Lord Jesus Christ, and her desire to love and serve others.
She is survived by daughters Ann (Larry) Brasher, Judy (Carl) Wright, son Jeff (Barbara) Smith, 7 grandchildren, and10 great grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Her sisters Ruth Burroughs, Charlotte Quarles, Jo Ann Burns, and Nancy Palmer, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Chris Wright, Brad Wright, Logan Wright, Anthony Stagner, Chris Davis, and Hunter Bridwell.
She spent the last 5 years at Moundville Health and Rehab, and they became a part of our family. We are very grateful for their loving care.
