Elizabeth Hawkins (Liz, Mom, Grandmommy, Aunt Lib) left her earthly home to enter her eternal home on November 6, 2024, after a full life of love and faith. Preceding her in death are her parents, James C. and Lucille Farris, and her brother, Dr. Billy R. Farris. Surviving her include her high school sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Bill Hawkins, her two sons, Mike Hawkins (Angela) of Texas, Tim Hawkins of Ralph, AL, her beloved grandchildren, Sloane Hawkins Ehler (Nik), and Reagan Hawkins (Summer), and many special nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth enjoyed music dating back to her high school days at Tuscaloosa County High where she was in both the marching and concert bands. She played the oboe in the orchestra and sang in the choir along with Bill at St. Andrew Baptist when they lived in Panama City Beach, Fl (1982-2001). Elizabeth sang in the church choir in all of the churches she and Bill were members of in the various cities they lived in over the years.
Elizabeth graduated from the University of Alabama in 1960 with a degree in Commerce and Business Administration. She always found secretarial work that she could do around her sons and their school activities. The degree also served her well during the years that she and Bill owned and operated the Sun-Glo Motel in Panama City Beach.
Elizabeth enjoyed many activities and serving in many capacities: president of the Newcomers Club, teaching Sunday School classes, post-graduate studies in Library Science, attending University of Alabama football and softball games, traveling with Bill, Tuscaloosa County Republican Executive Committee, cross-stitching, and scrapbooking, and spending as much time as possible with family.
Elizabeth’s favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Elizabeth was an example of perseverance and faith and would want to be remembered for her service to her family.
A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. A funeral service will occur Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. A committal service will occur Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 14219 Shiloh Rd, Ralph, AL 35480.
