Ethelyne Burroughs Ramsey, age 97, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed from this Earthly existence into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus on October 8, 2018 at the Daffodil House. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, 2018, from 1-1:30 p.m. at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Morris Burroughs officiating. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Ramsey was born in Romulus on July 27, 1921 to William Verdo Burroughs, Sr. and Ruth Ethelyne Barton Burroughs.
Mrs. Ramsey was preceded in death by her husband William C. Ramsey, Sr.; her parents, sisters, Sybil Booth and Myrtle Edmonds; and brothers, William V. Burroughs, Jr., Leland B. Burroughs and Ralph C. Burroughs, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy R. Hill (Bill); sons, Gerald B. Ramsey, Sr. (Dene) and William C. Ramsey, Jr. (Betty); grandson, Gerald B. Ramsey, Jr.; two great-grandsons, Zachary and Chase Ramsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ramsey loved her Lord Jesus and children resulting in years of service as children's teacher at Forest Lake Baptist Church, Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church and Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She loved writing poems and short stories.
She worked approximately thirty years for Gulf States Paper Corporation until the mill closed. She then spent years working for Tuscaloosa Vending where she prepared thousands of hotdogs for Alabama football games.
Pallbearers will be Harold Spencer, Bill Hill, Jerome Booth, Bill Burroughs, her grandson, Gerald Ramsey, Jr. and great-grandsons, Zachary and Chase Ramsey.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Browne, Sue Wicker, Gail Hales, Pat Gooden and the staff of Daffodil House Assisted Living, L„L.C., Bessie Smith and neighbors of Belvedere Place, the staff of Alabama Hospice Care of Tuscaloosa and members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
