TUSCALOOSA – Gearldean Channell Smith, age 73, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2019. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Jennie Geer Frazer officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; brothers and daughter, Debra Gail Mason.
Survivors include her daughters, Angie Lucas (Anthony), Brenda Carter (Wayne) and Betty Beam (Mike); sisters, Gleneva and Glenda; grandchildren, Kayla Watts (Eric), Hunter White (Lilly), Jessica Phillips (Billy), Leslie Burleson (John), Bradley Carter (Laura), and J. T. Carter (Kerrie); and great-grandchildren, Rylee, Aubree, Amabala, Eian, Brayden, Jake, Baleigh, Harper, Raelynn, Emma, Ella and Sawyer.
Gearldean was born in Buhl, Alabama and moved to Tuscaloosa as an adult. She loved spending time with her children and all of her grandbabies. Gearldean loved to dance, spend time helping her friends and family, loved to play cards and do word search puzzles. She always had a story to tell and loved to crack jokes and make others laugh. Gearldean had an infectious laugh that will be missed by so many.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Carter, Anthony Mitchum, Bradley Carter, Mike Beam, Ronald Frederick (Shorty) and Johnny Melton.
Honorary pallbearers are Oxford Healthcare, Cheryl Hardy, Jennie Frazer, Robin Montgomery, Alacare Home Health and numerous friends.
