He emigrated to the United States in 1988 to pursue post graduate studies. He graduated with a Ph. D. in Mathematics from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He would later become a Professor of Mathematics at Stillman College, where he taught until retiring in 2020.
Hanxiang had dedicated his life to education and Mathematics. In addition to his professorship, he has contributed as a consultant for the SAT and ACT standardized testing. Most importantly he is remembered for his kind heart, and soft-spoken manners. He has treated everyone in life with respect and dignity.
He was preceeded in death by his first wife Juanjuan Lu. He is survived by his spouse Yirong Ma, son Dakai Chen, daughter in law Yafei Zhang, and grandchildren, Mika and Luka.
