James R. Hulsey, Sr.

James Reginald “Jimmy” Hulsey, age 80, of Calera, formerly of Northport, died April 29, 2012, at Northport Medical Center-DCH. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Skinner officiating and soloist Debra Horton. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elgin and Ruby Hulsey; his brother, Bill Hulsey; and his sisters, Dot Thompson and Charlotte Morrison.

Survivors include his son, Reggie Hulsey (Cindy) of Coker; his daughter, Diane Beall (Roy) of Ralph; his grandchildren, Becky Townsend (Scotty) of Coker, Greg Hulsey of Coker, and Brad Beasley (Amanda) of Fort Worth, Texas; his great-grandchildren, Blake and Austin Townsend of Coker and Tatum and Tristan of Fort Worth, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and his pet, Baby.

James Reginald “Jimmy” Hulsey was born January 27, 1932. Jimmy proudly attended Holt High School and Tuscaloosa High School before joining the U.S. Army at the age of 17, serving in Korea. After his term of service was completed he worked for Perry Creamery, where he met his wife, Betty Quarles. They lived in several sections of Tuscaloosa, in Northport, and on Lake Tuscaloosa. He was a resident of Calera at the time of his death.

He and his late wife, Betty, founded Hulsey Heating & Cooling. It is currently operated by his son and his son's family.

Jimmy was a great Alabama fan and followed Alabama teams in his motor home all over the Southeast.

Honorary pallbearers are the nurses and doctors of North Harbor and Northport Medical Center who took care of him, James and Linda Shirley, Billy and Jeanette Estes, Dale and Curly Jennings, Terry and Sherry Minyard, very special friend Winifred Allen Akridge, and Pedro Hernadez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tuscaloosa Children's Center, 520 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
