
Joyce Ann Burke Hoodless, born on December 7, 1955, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 69. Joyce was a native of Moundville, Alabama, and later became a resident of Milton, Florida, after her marriage.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Oneil Burke; her mother-in-law, Jessie Hoodless; her father-in-law, Charles Hoodless Sr.; her sister, Patsy Burke Ingram; her brothers-in-law, James Ingram, Leon Arrington Jr., and Charles Hoodless Jr.; and her grandparents, Rodolph and Rosa Payne, and Robert and Mary Burke.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 49 years, Gary Turner Hoodless of Milton, Florida; her sons, Michael Alistair Hoodless and Matthew Seth Hoodless, both of Moundville, Alabama; her sister, Pamela Burke Arrington of Moundville, Alabama; and her brother, Roy Scott Burke of Moundville, Alabama.
Joyce graduated from Hale County High School in the Class of 1974. She met her husband, Gary, while attending Livingston University in Livingston, Alabama. Joyce earned her associate degree at Pensacola Junior College and dedicated 40 years of her career as a registered respiratory therapist at Santa Rosa Hospital in Milton, Florida.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Sumrall, Buddy Abernathy, Daniel Cole, Eric Bailey, David Nevin, and Billy Stokes. Honorary pallbearers include the staff of Jay Hospital, Dr. David C. Smith, and his staff.
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM at Five Mile Primitive Baptist Cemetery, with Elder Buddy Abernathy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Five Mile Primitive Baptist Church in Akron, Alabama, and Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church in Milton, Florida.
