

Juanita Boone Hallman, age 85, of Cottondale, died Sept. 4, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Westervelt-Warner Chapel of First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Charles Durham officiating. Private family burial will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ola Harless; her father, Earnest Stone; her stepfather, William P. Harless; her first husband, Robert Lee Boone; her son, Mark Boone; and, later, her spouse, Jim Hallman.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Boone Herrin (Hal); her grandchildren, Rusty Herrin (Jennifer) and Leigh Anne Lennox (Simon); and her great-grandchildren, Max, Alex, Emma, and Sadie.
Nita was strong in her faith, family, and friends. Born in Durham, North Carolina, she and her family moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1952 to be closer to her mother. She had a great love for animals. She practiced nursing for over 40 years, working in the DCH Emergency Dept. and Delivery Room, Dr. Ed Daly's office, DCH Inpatient Substance Recovery Unit, and DCH Home Health. After her retirement, she volunteered many hours at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Honorary pallbearers include Billy and Clarice Aycock, Louise Fincher, Anna Gasser, Travis and Barbara Marshall, Jerry and Rachel Cheatham, John and Martha Lennox, Carl and Paula Haynes, and her phone friends.
