

TUSCALOOSA – Leslie Sparks, age 93, of Tuscaloosa, died February 22, 2017. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with John Seale officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home with Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Riley Edwin Sparks and Mrs. Esther Denton Sparks; brothers, Vincent, Isom, Lin, Lawrence and Coolidge Sparks; and sister, Clois Cothren. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McCarver "Dot" Sparks of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; step daughters, Mrs. Susan Teague of New Jersey and Mrs. Ann Christensen of Topeka, Kan.; sons, Mr. Ronald Sparks and wife, Maggie Garrett of Kaufman, Texas, Jerald Sparks and wife, Patricia Sparks of Gentry, Ark. and Greg Mickler and wife Brenda Mickler of Daphne. Ala.; sister, Ms. Martha Shelton; and grandchildren, Ms. Rhonda Solvey, Mrs. Ashley Alexander, Randy, Andrew, Stephen and Matthew Sparks, Kelly and John Charles Mickler and Christopher Roquemore; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Leslie Sparks was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama. He graduated high school there and attended the University of Alabama. He served in the Army during World War II. He retired after many years of service to Bellsouth and AT&T, where he worked as an engineer. He married Dorothy McCarver almost 40 years ago. They traveled the world and enjoyed dancing the nights away. He had a love of music and continued playing bass guitar in a band up until the young age of 92.He loved working out in his yard and volunteering time at University Church of Christ and the hospital. He was a kind soul and loved by all who knew him.
