Margaret Christine Hayes, 92, of Northport, passed away on March 02, 2021, at her daughter’s residence. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, March 05, 2021 at 2:00pm from Memory Hill Gardens, Garden of Devotion with Jimmy Hayes officiating. Memory Chapel of Tuscaloosa, a Dignity provider is honored to be entrusted with final arrangements.
Christine Hayes was born February 24, 1929, in Hinds County, MS, to the late Thomas and Mary Hughes. Church of God by faith, she was a member of Northport Church of God. She loved God, reading her Bible and sharing the Gospel of Jesus with others. She was a caregiver by nature, and always attended to the needs of others. She was unselfish, with a Servant’s Heart, and was often lovingly described by neighbors as being the neighborhood “Social Worker.” She loved her family immensely, and adored caring for children. She had a talent for flower gardening and was known for her exceptional “Green Thumb.”
In addition to her parents, Ms. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband Walker Hayes, son Kenny Hayes, sister Pearl Barnett, and brothers Wesley Hughes, Carl Hughes and Charles Hughes.
She is survived by her daughters: Vicki Johnson (Michael) and Margaret Taylor (Robert); sisters Annie Munn and Francis Eads; brothers Lewis Hughes (Nell), Paul Hughes, Thomas Hughes and James Hughes (Sue); grandchildren: Thaniel Hayes, Jeremy Cox (Mende), Bentley Cox and Christopher Smith; great grandchildren: Madilyn Yanez, Ella Cox, Chloe Cox, Kenneth Hayes and Bella Hayes.
