Mary Elizabeth Carlisle, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died November 20, 2018, at Hospice of West Alabama. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018, in First Presbyterian Church in the Westervelt – Warner Chapel with The Rev. Michael Bailey officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service in Warner Hall at First Presbyterian Church. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is directing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Stanley Jackson of New Orleans, La.
Survivors include her husband, William Carlisle, M.D. of Tuscaloosa; daughter, Sara Martin (Bob) of Tuscaloosa; son, Greg Carlisle of Tuscaloosa; and grandchildren, Melissa Carlisle of Birmingham, Robert Martin of Tuscaloosa and Charlotte Carlisle of Gadsden.
Mary was born December 23, 1927 to the H. Stanley Jacksons of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The family moved to New Orleans where she grew up, graduated from Sophie Newcomb College and attended the Tulane Graduate School of Work. It was in New Orleans that she met and later, in 1951, married the love of her life sharing the next 67 years.
In 1957, she ended her career in social work and set out upon her cherished role of ""Mom"" to first Greg and then Sara.
The Carlisles moved to Tuscaloosa in 1960 when Bill joined Dr. David Partlow, Sr. in the practice of OB/GYN.
Mary was a 50+ year member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her community service in Junior League and was a member of U.D.C. and Les Amis Study Club.
