

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray “Bull” Sanders, her parents, Lee & Willie Belle Smitherman, brothers, Billy Don Smitherman & Jerry Lee Smitherman, sister, Linda Edmonds and granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Strickland.
Survivors include her & Murray’s five children, Mike Miller, Tracy (Jeff) Fulks, Rhonda (Ross) Strickland, Bobby (Carol) Sanders, Gail (Lou) McCormick, brother-in-law, Doug Edmonds, sister-in-law, Merline Spivey, grandchildren Marti Gilmore, Cody Strickland, Justin Fulks, Christian Knestrick, Caitlynn Strickland, Justin Smalley, Matt Sanders, Brad Sanders, Robbye Richardson, Elizabeth Boudreaux & Ashley Maskinas, 19 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews that loved her so much, and Julia Bush, her special daughter.
Peggy was born on June 6, 1943, and graduated from Holt High School in 1961 where she was a majorette. She earned a degree from American Institute of Business and began her career at Modern Investments. She later became the administrator secretary for Euco Beverage and Office Manager for Supreme Beverage in 1992. She retired in 2008 so she could spend time with her grandchildren. Peggy was married to Murray for more than 38 years and loved to travel with him to Alabama football games and numerous Lion Club events. She also loved to travel in their motorhome with her sister and her family. Peggy was very involved in her children’s lives and was Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownies and Girl Scout Leader, Little League Cheerleader Coach and Motor Cross Director and Score Keeper at her family’s Motor Cross track known as Tuscaloosa Cycle Park. Her family traveled all over the country with her son in the moto cross circuit. Her favorite hobbies were her flowers, sewing and making her children’s clothes and doll clothes. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and the McCollum Sunday School class.
Services will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on October 26, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor Bo Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Cody Strickland, Justin Fulks, Justin Smalley, Andrew Knestrick, Connor Ray, Tony Newman, Phil Edmonds, Donnie Smitherman and Mikiel Smitherman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama, the most caring, loving and compassionate organization. We would like to thank the nurses, aids and doctors at Hospice of West Alabama for the love they showed mother in the last two weeks of her life. You were truly angels to mom and her children.
