Shirley Lee Finley Denton

Shirley Lee Denton, age 66, of Tuscaloosa, died March 29, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Finley, her mother, Mildred Svetlay (George), and her granddaughter, Tamara Denton.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Denton, Sr.; her daughters, Kelly Howard and Tammy Gray (Larry); her sons, Richard Denton (Alaina), Thomas Denton, Jr. (Gracie), Tim Denton (Laurie), and Teddy Denton (Carol); her sister, Retha Burdett (Thomas); her brother, George Svetlay, Jr.; her aunt, Earline Turner (Marvin); her niece, Abbie Burdett; her cousins, Tommy Finley and Donnie Finley; her grandchildren, Dawson Howard, Kinsley Denton, Jeremy Wood, Joey Wood, Tabitha Denton, Todd Denton, Ryan Denton, Ted Denton, Christy McGee (Dewayne), and Stevie Acker (Kellie); and two great-grandchildren.

She was a friend, coworker, neighbor, confidant, Avon representative, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, grandmother, mother-in-law, mother, and a devoted, loving, amazing wife to her husband of 32 years.

Pallbearers will be Dawson Howard, Ted Denton, Ryan Denton, Todd Denton, Joey Wood, Jeremy Wood, Steven Tunnell, and John Hubbard.

Honorary pallbearers are special friends Pat Pruett, Missy Denton, Chad Howard, Don and Terina Wood, James and Patty Wesson, Edith Fordham, Danny Hubbard, Joan and John Brewer, Susie and Pedro Valdez, Laura and Clay Clark, Robert and Mary Earl Snyder, and Jason Kelley; members of Holt United Methodist Church; Holt United Methodist Women; her Avon customers; Dr. John Warren and doctors and staff of the 3rd Floor MICU; and employees of Holt Elementary School.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Holt United Methodist Women.
