The sun rose on February 18, 1974 when Stacey Chambliss Snead was born to Ben and Brenda Chambliss in Memphis, TN. Less than a year later, Stacey found her partner in crime when she became Shannon Chambliss’ older sister. All the best trouble followed as Stacey grew up and learned that she could see all her friends if she went to school, and she was loved by everyone who met her. Stacey’s life forever changed, though she would not know it then, when she danced with the mulleted-man of her dreams, Hugh Snead, at the prom of 1989. The world was not ready for them yet, so after graduating from American Christian Academy, Stacey headed to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she found her home at the University of Alabama. In 1998, Claire Mitchell made Stacey a mother, her lifelong dream. Claudia and then Abigail Mitchell followed suit in 1999 and 2002, Stacey found her joy and poured all of her wisdom, laughter and love into raising her gaggle of girls. A serendipitous reconnection found Stacey in Gulf Shores in 2013, saying “I do” to the now not-so-mulleted man of her dreams, Hugh Snead, and his daughter Morgan Snead. Thus their little family was complete and lived in peace and love as Stacey showed her daughters how to chase the stars. After nearly a decade, Stacey Snead became Dr. Stacey Snead when she obtained her doctorate of Clinical Psychology. Stacey used her degree to work with the VA Hospital, Head Start and the University of Alabama to help children, teachers and families, and shape early childhood mental health in the State of Alabama. The sun set on the evening of August 21, 2021, when Stacey succumbed to her nine-year struggle against colon cancer.
In addition to her sister Shannon, Stacey was preceded in death by her grandparents: Joe & Gladys Chambliss of Prattville, AL, and Bob & Peggy Wyatt of Tuscaloosa, her in-laws Sue and Frank Snead, Sr. and her beloved dog “Chloe.”
Stacey is survived by her husband Hugh, daughters Claire, Claudia, Abigail and Morgan, parents Ben and Brenda Chambliss, her faithful companion, her dog “Bubba” and a host of family and special friends that will forever cherish the time they were able to have Stacey as a part of their lives.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 27, 2021, from 10am until the 11am Celebration of Life Service at Memory Chapel of Tuscaloosa. Burial will immediately follow from Memory Hill Gardens, Masonic Garden, with Dr. Donald Payne officiating. Services will be under the direction of Memory Chapel, a Dignity Memorial provider.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Eddie Hawthorne, Adam Wyatt, Jamie Velazquez, Mack Chambliss, Scott Guy, Wayne Wyatt, Barry Wyatt and Clyde Chambliss. The family requests that Memorial Contributions in Stacey’s honor, be made to the American Cancer Society, for colon cancer research, or the Humane Society.
